Race Day is Set: February 26th, 2011

The 5th annual New England Runner Sled Championship will be held February 26th, 2011 on Hogback Mountain in Montville, Maine.

The title at stake is: “Fastest Runner Sledder in all the Land”

Like last year, there will be a time trial event (held on February 19th at the same location) at which the top 16 racers will advance to race day.

New this year: the time trial course will be open on Race Day for sliding, thanks to a new hiking trail cut by volunteers this fall. This allows sliding on the time trial trail and walking on the new hiking trail without worrying about collisions.

Here are the other details:

SLED WEEK is Saturday Feb. 19th up until Race Day. The trail will be open to the public for practice, but keep in mind it might be occasionally closed for grooming and/or maintenance.

Sat. Feb 19th – Time Trials – Arrive at the Runner Sledding Course Landing by 8 a.m.. The Landing is located at the end of Bragdon Rd. off rte. 220 in Montville, ME.
Sun Feb 20th – Shanty Town Sunday – Set up your ice-fishing shack and get your parking spot for the races.
Fri. Feb 25th – Volunteer Meeting held at The Landing at noon. Potluck lunch. Duties for Race Day will be discussed and assigned. Thanks for your help!
Sat. Feb 26th – RACE DAY!
-Open Trail from 8:30 to 12:30.
-Kids time trials will occur during this time.
Key Points to keep in mind:
-This is a family-friendly event. We do ask for adult donations at the gate as a lot of work and money go into making this event possible. However, no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
-The race trail and the time trials trail will be both be open for sledding. The race trail (the lower trail only) will close to the public at 12:30 p.m. so that grooming for the Finals can take place. The time trial trail (the upper trail) will remain open throughout the day.
-There is a 150-car parking lot. With that said, PLEASE CARPOOL, as it will get tight.
-There will be much more spectator room on the course.
-Special parking area for snowmobiles.
-If you want to be in the big race, you MUST QUALIFY IN THE TIME TRIALS ON FEB 19, 2011.
